Fresh Fish Does a Body Good

Chicken breast is a great source for fast absorbing proteins. It's easy to prepare, it's inexpensive, and there are many different ways to cook it. You will eventually exhaust all of these options. In order not to get completely bored with chicken, don't wear it out. There are other real food sources to choose from.

Adding fish to your diet will add variety to your menu, and you won't be sacrificing nutrition in doing so. Far too often when eating a clean diet the #1 reason we quit is because what we are eating may seem boring and bland.

Everyone who wants to build lean muscle mass knows that protein is the cornerstone of any meal program. One far too often forgotten form of protein is fish. I'm not talking about eating canned tuna out the wazoo either. I'm talking about fresh fish. The real thing is just so much better.

Fish will tend to be a bit more costly. There are many ways around this though. When you are at the store, look to see if it's on sale. Most of the time you will find some kind of fish or another on sale. There are also many different types of fish to choose from. Picking the right one may seem overwhelming if you don't know what you are looking for at that time.

Taste does matter when it comes to the fish you will pick out to eat. I have found these three different kinds of fish taste great, and are easy to prepare. All three have white flaky meat and are clean tasting and not full of oil. You can supplement for extra oil. Your main concern here is protein, and all three are loaded with it. These fish are cod, flounder, and striped bass(rock fish). All three are commonly found at a local grocery store and really are not all that expensive. These fish are also low in mercury.

If you are looking to lose weight or keep it off, then fish will fit right into your meal plan. Most varieties of fish are very low in fat. The exceptions to the rule are salmon and mackerel, but the fats that they do have are all good fats. This will do you good when trying to gain lean muscle mass.

Make sure when you are in a store that you only choose fish that is packed in ice. The fillets you pick should be firm to the touch, and have a moist appearance. Once you are home, make sure you get it into the fridge and eat it within 2 days. If you cannot eat it within 2 days, vacuum pack it and freeze it. Don't refreeze fish after it has thawed.

The three fish I mentioned in the above article are some of the safest fish to eat. They all have very low mercury levels. Making sure that the fish is fresh will eliminate any risk to your health.
